Abstract

In this study, the student of computational engineering Katharina Thülen analyses different technologies of current interactive whiteboards. She compares a selection of whiteboards on the basis of a chosen set of criteria. These include installation options, surface conditions, resolution and writing accuracy, minimum requirements for the computers used with the interactive whiteboards, possible interference factors as well as environmental compatibility and costs. In order to subsequently determine the specific requirements of schools, the author has developed a questionnaire and conducted interviews. The conceptual design of this survey will also be presented within this study. The results of the empirical study will be published in a following bachelor´s thesis (expected in spring 2012).

Abstract

In his diploma thesis the computer science graduate Robert Ogonowski designs a concept for an expansion of the helpdesk system “fraDesk” into a (hyper-)linked helpdesk system (“hyperDesk”). It improves the clarity of contents for users by providing a system of sophisticated linking between event entries. The concept also includes a more user-friendly form of presentation by applying communicational graphics.

Abstract

Companies increasingly use different forms of communication. Next to voice communication eMail has established itself as a new means of communication. In the future new communication services will find their way into the work environment of corporate employees. These services, however, cannot - or at least not without involving huge costs - be implemented via traditional telecommunication systems. The following thesis deals with the development of corporate communications and requirements toward a future communications architecture. The technical concepts of a Next Generation Network (NGN) presented here are based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). A cost-benefit-analysis concludes this analysis of possible competitive advantages and cost savings due to the use of SIP-based NGNs. The results show that the implementation of Next Generation Network pays off for Corporate Communications.

Abstract

Information technology is becoming increasingly important in school contexts – in the classroom as well as for the school-maintaining authorities regarding equipment and operation of schools. The application of ITSM (IT Service Management) principles in school contexts, however, is relatively new since the social and political mandate to promote media competence has emerged only in recent years.
In his diploma thesis the computer science graduate Anthony Schmelz investigates to what extent accepted ITSM procedures and methods, especially the well established ITSM-framework "ITIL", can be applied in school contexts. Therefore, ITIL recommendations are analysed as to their applicability to ITSM requirements of a major school maintaining body. The thesis shows that complicated distributions of responsibilities within the German school system and the elusive value product of "education" make a lot of customization necessary when implementing ITSM in schools.

Abstract

As part of this internship project it was tested whether and how an Internet-based communicational platform for a certain user group could be reasonably implemented and maintained. The study focuses less on questions of technical implementation but on a cost-benefit-analysis within a special context defined by its target group, communicational structures and processes as well as availability of recourses.
