Editorship (with Olga Engel) of the 2nd conference volume of fraMediale15' | In March 2011 we hosted the Frankfurt Media Fair and Symposium fraMediale 15'. The event focused on the use of (new) media in education. Overall, more than 200 teachers, tutors, school principals and other interested persons attended. Media experts, tutors, politicians, city of Frankfurt representatives and fraLine staff presented 15-minute presentations of current projects. Since spoken words trail off quickly, speakers and exhibitors agreed to publish their papers, and thus, to inform about their projects, make their ideas accessible to a wider target group and encourage schools to follow suit. The first publication released in summer 2010 at kopaed-Verlag, Munich. The second conference volume of fraMediale15 will be published in autumn 2011. By the way: yet another fraMediale is planned for September, 19th 2012. Registration for contribution is now available. |
Project |
fraLine IT-Schul-Service, a cooperative project by the City of Frankfurt am Main (municipal education authority) and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences | The project primarily employs students to support the technical service in Frankfurt schools and to work on several projects improving school-support concepts. Besides the technical support the project team also provides assistance with media education: As part of the project “educational-technical assistance” all Frankfurt teachers are welcome to receive direct help with the use of media in class. As its primary goal the project aims at establishing an environment that enables the use of new media in the classroom and secondly and at enhancing media literacy of teachers. |
Project |
Software development of a multiuser capable helpdesk system (“fraDesk”) | In order to launch the school-support-initiative of the city of Frankfurt "fraLine", a tool had to be found enabling support staff to organize and process requests of over 150 schools. Since the market in 2001 did not offer an affordable comparable tool, the fraLine team initially developed its own tool which has continually been customized ever since. As part of the project “Application-Orientated Research and Development at Universities of Applied Sciences” a basic redevelopment of the system as multi-user capable helpdesk was launched in 2003. The fraDesk has been active since August 2007 and was presented on the CeBIT in Hannover at the joint stand of the Hessian Technology Transfer Network (TTN). |
Evaluation |
The Institute for Media and Communication Studies (IfMK) of the Technical University of Ilmenau evaluated fraLine | To make sure Frankfurt schools are satisfied with fraLine’s IT support an evaluation took place. . Besides surveying the satisfaction of schools it will also be examined which support services are further needed in order to help schools use digital media properly für instructing children. Prof. Dr. Nicola Doering has been assigned to implement the evaluation study. Prof. Doering is teaching Media Design / Media Psychology and is Director of the Institute of Media and Communication Studies (IfMK) at Ilmenau Technical University. Results will be published autumn 2010. |
